FOR JUNE THINKING
ABOUT THE FRUITS OF THE SPIRIT
Paul
tells the
Galatians: Live by the Spirit and do
not gratify the desires of the flesh….the fruit of the Spirit is love,
joy,
peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and
self-control. There is no law against
such things. (Galatians 5:16-22) This
month as we read about the fruit of the Spirit that is patience, I
invite us to reflect on the ways we need “patience”:
in our emotional lives, in our daily lives, in
our relationships with families and friends, our communities and our
world, when
we make requests to God. How many ways
do we learn patience as we journey through our lives?
--Pastor Janis Prayer
for patience: Teach us, gracious Lord, to
begin our deeds with reverence, to go on with obedience, and to finish
them in
love; and then to wait patiently in hope and with cheerful confidence
to look
up to you, whose promises are faithful and reward infinite; through
Jesus
Christ. (George Hickes in The Tuesday,

1:2-8 PRAYER: O
God, we
confess to you that we do not prepare ourselves to hear your voice. We know that we are rarely attuned to
you. We admit that you could shout
loudly and we still might not listen to your words.
We know that we don’t pray often enough.
We say we don’t have time. We
confess that we want immediate results….We
are impatient if we don’t get results this quickly from our praying. Forgive us, O God. Help
us to learn that allowing ourselves to
trust you takes time and effort on our part. We
pray these things in your name. Amen. (Holly W. Whitcomb in The
