DEVOTIONS FOR JUNE

THINKING ABOUT THE FRUITS OF THE SPIRIT

Paul tells the Galatians:   Live by the Spirit and do not gratify the desires of the flesh….the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.  There is no law against such things.  (Galatians 5:16-22)

This month as we read about the fruit of the Spirit that is patience, I invite us to reflect on the ways we need “patience”:  in our emotional lives, in our daily lives, in our relationships with families and friends, our communities and our world, when we make requests to God.  How many ways do we learn patience as we journey through our lives?  --Pastor Janis

Prayer for patience:  Teach us, gracious Lord, to begin our deeds with reverence, to go on with obedience, and to finish them in love; and then to wait patiently in hope and with cheerful confidence to look up to you, whose promises are faithful and reward infinite; through Jesus Christ.   (George Hickes in The Westminster Collection of Christian Prayers, p. 260)
