Leader:    The Lord is my light and my salvation; of whom shall I be afraid?
People:    The Lord is the stronghold of my life; that means I don’t have to be afraid no matter what circumstances come my way.
Leader:    The Lord will hide me and shelter me when times of trouble come; the Lord will set me on a high rock and lift me up above my enemies.
People:    I believe that I will see the goodness of the Lord in my life and in the world and therefore I will wait for the Lord; I will be strong; my heart will take courage.  Wait for the Lord!

    Merciful God, we say we trust you and we want to trust you; but we don’t always do so.  We can think of lots of excuses, but the truth we have to confess is that we don’t always live the way you want us to.  Because that’s so, we have regrets; we know we need to change.  Accept our confession, we pray, and help us truly follow in your way as we learn to trust you more and more. Amen.

        We are not alone; we live in God’s world.  We believe in God:  who has created and is creating, who has come in Jesus, the Word made flesh, to reconcile and make new; who works in us and others by the Spirit.  We trust in God.  We are called to be the church:  to celebrate God’s presence, to love and serve others, to seek justice and resist evil, to proclaim Jesus, crucified and risen, our judge and our hope.  In life, in death, in life beyond death, God is with us.  We are not alone.  Thanks be to God.  Amen.
